Waterkloof Animal Hospital was started by a Dr O’Brian, before being sold to Dr Venter, and later Dr David Meltzer (known as Woody), bought the practice from him and established the practice in Main street, Waterkloof in 1960.
Dr Selma van Schouwenburg started working for Dr Woody in 1976, straight after qualifying at Onderstepoort. She then took over as owner of the practice, in 1979. At that time she had to find new premises, and the practice was moved to Bronkhorst street next to “Ginsbergs“, before moving to its current location at 241 Bronkhorst street in 1987 .
Dr Karin Braune started working for Dr Selma in 1998, and Dr Ryan Viljoen started in 2016.
Dr Karin and Dr Ryan, took over as new owners of the practice, from Dr Selma in July 2019, when she retired from veterinary practice at the age of 86, after an incredible 43 year veterinary career!
Then in January 2022 Dr Karin had the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream of living and working at the coast and moved to the Western Cape.
Dr Trevor Viljoen then joined Dr Ryan as the new veterinarian and co-owner of Waterkloof Animal Hospital in February 2022. Dr Ryan and Dr Trevor have been school mates all through primary school, high school and university and even worked together as veterinarians at a previous practice. They have shared the dream of running a modern, high quality, professional veterinary practice for many years now and at last the dream has become a reality.
